New technology for the blind introduces

KATHMANDU, Aug 8: Visually impaired people of Nepal will also be able to contact through chat, email and facefook with friends living in foreign countries.



They got the facility after the modern equipment called Braille Sense was brought to Nepal.



A 15- day training was run for operating the equipment for the blind jointly by the Nepal Blind Association, Netrahin Yubasangh Nepal and Blind Cooperation Association in association with the Blind Corps of USA. [break]



The equipment was distributed to 22 visually impaired people. The equipment is like laptop and has some keys and audio visual can be exchanged by connecting with computer.



One can also use pen drive. They can use it by touching from Braille. The equipment was distributed free of cost by the sponsor of the organizations, Muna Dahal. Nepal has some 455,000 blind and can benefit from it.



There was already a British product Braille Sense Plus which cost more than Rs. 400,000, but has not yet been brought to Nepal, said Deafline Association Chairman Pushparaj Rimal.



Trainer Sushil Adhikari said government should distribute such equipments to the needy.



Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Education Mahashram Sharma, said a blind person´s contribution while living in US has been laudable and government was positive for cooperating with the blind.



Sponsor Dahal said blind too have a capability and it will be beneficial for them. Also speaking were chairman of the Nepal Netraheen Sangh, Nar Bahadur Limbu, Disabled Women Association Nepal Chairperson Rama Dahal, disabled rights activist Birendraraj Pokhrel, Nepal Association World for the Blind Chairman Kumar Thapa also expressed their views.
