New language identified in Eastern Nepal

DAMAK, April 15: A team of experts that had come in the district for conducting a language survey has identified a new language.



The team of linguists from the capital that reached Damak a week back identified the new language spoken by the Mau community living in Mechinagar and Tokla Tea Estate as the ´Malpahade´ language.



According to the team, the language is spoken by the people of the Mau community living in areas around Mechinagar-11. The team also said that there are only some 60 speakers of Malpahade language.



The team has conducted a survey of 15 languages spoken by the 42 different communities in Jhapa district.
