CHITWAN, Sept 29: Sauraha-based tourism entrepreneurs on Thursday opened a new jungle trail for tourists on the occasion of 33th World Tourism Day.

The new jungle trail connects Sauraha with Marchauni Khola through Purano Padampur alongside the Rapti River. Tourists walking through the 9 km-long trail will get opportunities to relish bird nests in Padampur, which has been restored as wetland, and boating in Jayamangala ghol.[break]

"It´s a gift to tourists," said Shankar Sainju, Chairman of Regional Hotel Association, Sauraha. "Tourists are also excited about the new trail."

On Thursday, those tourists who walked through the new trail were greeted with vermillion powder and shawls by tourism entrepreneurs, conservation activists and officials from Chitwan National Park (CNP).

Previously, those tourists who wanted to enjoy trekking through jungle had no safe trails. They used to roan around inside local community forests and CNP area. While roaming around in unsafe jungle area, some tourists had also been attacked by wild animals.

"Now, tourists no longer need to walk through unsafe jungles," said Sainju. "The new trail is completely safe."
