KATHMANDU, July 18: The Press Council Nepal is preparing to launch 'Journalist Code of Conduct, 2073 BS' with an aim to protect press freedom in the backdrop of development of fair journalism and by instilling a sense of responsibility and professionalism in media houses and journalists.
The new code of conduct is being introduced as the preceding 'Journalist Code of Conduct – 2060 BS (Amended and Modified – 2064 BS)' could not encompass the media houses and journalists concerns.
"The code of conduct of 2003 (2060 BS) seems to have been centered on print media, so we are preparing to bring such code of conduct as to encompass radio stations, television network and online news portals that have emerged as the new media outlets," Council Chairman Borna Bahadur Karki said.
As compared to the less number of journalists and media houses, the number of media outlets has increased now which is also stoking an increment in the incidents of violation of the code of conduct, added Karki.
He further said that the new code of conduct will be implemented in the beginning of the first week of August. RSS
