HUMLA, Oct 26: Chief Minister of Karnali Province, Mangal Bahadur Shahi, has said the access to road, electricity and communication services has expanded to the villages in Karnali after the country became a federal republic.
Addressing a programme organized at Suryodaya Secondary School in Srinagar, Ward No. 3, Adanchuli Rural Municipality, where he studied back in 1984, he pointed out that in the past, it was difficult even to bring rice and salt in Karnali.
"Now, the expansion of the road network, electricity reaching villages, and people having mobile phones in their hands are significant examples of change," he said.
Republic Day to be celebrated for three days
Recalling the days of hardship the people of Karnali had to live in the past, Chief Minister Shahi compared the past situation with the current environment and expressed the view that the achievements gained after the federal republic should be respected by the new generation.
"Back in 1984, when I studied at this school, we had to go to Kolti and Martadi in Bajura to bring rice. We used to carry heavy loads on the way, and even when bringing rice from there, we had to carry the heavy loads ourselves," he said.
Remembering the time during his student life when there was no electricity and the children had to read by lighting 'jharo' or the pine wood, due to a shortage of kerosene, Chief Minister Shahi pointed out that everyone should appreciate the fact that roads and electricity have now reached every village and communication services have expanded.
He mentioned that along with physical development, there has also been change in the social sphere. Pointing out notable improvements in social respect and rights, he said, "All the castes and communities in society can now live with dignity."
