The NERF enforced its strike accusing the Ministry of Education (MoE) of showing indifference in addressing its demands. [break]
The demands put forth by the NERF include giving permanent status to all temporary teachers through internal exams, scrapping Company Act in education sector and appointing all relief-quota teachers in permanent posts.
“It is the most suitable time for the MoE to address our demands as the Education Act is being amended again after six years,” said Amal Rai, general secretary of the NERF. “But, the MoE seems to be not taking our demands seriously.”
Previously on June 14, less than three weeks after the declaration of educational sector as "peace zone" by the government, the same teachers´ organization had called for a strike in the Kathmandu Valley without prior notice.
