NEPSE plunges by 34.47 points; daily turnover decreases marginally to Rs 28.83 billion

KATHMANDU, Aug 18: Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) on Sunday plunged by 34.47 points to close at 2,966.33 points.

KATHMANDU, Aug 18: Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) on Sunday plunged by 34.47 points to close at 2,966.33 points.


The secondary market opened at 3,000.81 points and escalated 43 points in the first three minutes. It reached the day’s high at 3,047.2 points in the first hour. However, the index went downhill and hit the day’s low at 2,947.24 points in the last minutes. The market recovered around 19 points in the remaining period before it closed for the day.

The sensitive index, which measures the performance of ‘A’ class companies, decreased by 6.65 points. The daily turnover fell slightly to Rs 28.83 billion from the record high amount of Rs 29.95 billion on Thursday.


Among individual companies, 47 were recorded as gainers whereas 197 were the losers.


Four groups including non-life insurance, banking, life insurance and mutual funds were successful in adding to their market values. Non-life insurance gained the highest of 66.73 points. Of the nine losers, the hotels and tourism index dropped by the biggest of 348.58 points.


Himalayan Reinsurance Limited had the largest turnover of its shares worth Rs 821.48 million. Nepal Finance Limited was the biggest loser. Four companies including Rastriya Beema Company, Life Insurance Corporation (Nepal), Multipurpose Finance Company and Sampada Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited gained the highest of 10 percent of their share values.
