Nepse plunges 26.14 points, daily turnover stands at Rs 2.502 billion on Sunday

KATHMANDU, July 30: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) on Sunday plunged a notable 26.14 points to close at 2,100.34 points.  

The secondary market opened at 2,126.48 points and rose to the day’s high at 2,138.68 points just in the first nine minutes of trading. The market however went to a straight fall in the remaining trading hours and hit as low as 2,091.95 points while the market recovered around nine points in the last 20 minutes before it closed for the day.  

The monetary policy endorsed by Nepal Rastra Bank could not help improve the investors’ confidence even when the interest rates of banks are in declining trend. Following the announcement of the policy by the central bank, the market index declined successively for the past one week.  

The sensitive index that measures the performance of blue chip companies also dropped 4.17 points. The daily turnover increased marginally to Rs 2.502 billion from Rs 2.425 billion on Thursday.   

Index of mutual funds alone increased nominally by 0.04 points. Of the 12 losers, non-life insurance dropped the highest of 210.37 points, Life insurance and hotels and tourism lost 188.18 points and 120.82 points, respectively.

Among individual companies, the market values of 189 companies declined. Only 18 companies were recorded as gainers.  

Shivam Cements had the largest transaction of its shares worth Rs 147.874 million. While Manakamana Smart Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited was the topmost loser, People’s Power Limited gained the highest of 3.56 percent.
