NEPSE nosedives 32.77 points; daily turnover declines to Rs 6.274 billion

KATHMANDU, Dec 21: Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) on Thursday plunged 32.77 points to close at 2,109.10 points.

According to the NEPSE, the market that opened at 2,141.87 points, gained around 13 points in the first two minutes of trading. However, the market went into a downward graph in the remaining trading hours.

The market hit the day’s low at 2,108.38 points at the midway of the trading time. In the remaining two hours, the index recovered nominally before the market closed for the day. According to stockbrokers, the market witnessed a downturn after investors rushed to book their profits from the capital gains in the past few days. 

The sensitive index that measures the performance of ‘A’ class companies also declined by six points. The daily turnover amount declined to Rs 6.274 billion from Rs 7.009 billion on Wednesday. 

Only two groups were the gainers. While manufacturing and processing added 142 points to its market price, trading increased by 17.33 points. Out of the 11 losers, life insurance plunged 329.05 points, the highest of all. It was followed by hotels and tourism (178.61 points) and development banks (135.16 points).

Among individual companies, 191 were recorded as losers whereas 53 companies were the gainers. 

Shivam Cements Ltd had a transaction of its shares worth Rs 306.86 million and stood topmost in the trade volume. SuryaJyoti Life Insurance Company Limited lost the highest of 7.44 percent. Bottlers Nepal (Balaju) Limited, with adding 10 percent in its market price, was recorded as the largest gainer.
