Nepse loses 38.61 points on Thursday

KATHMANDU, August 4: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) on Thursday fell 38.61 points to close at 2,148.16 points.

The secondary market opened at 2,186.76 points and reached the day’s high at 2,192.70 points within the first few minutes of the starting of trading hours for the day. However, the market followed a fluctuating trend in the rest of trading time on Thursday.

According to stockbrokers, the market transaction at present is affected by the possibility of the banks raising the interest rate anytime soon due to the pressure of liquidity crunch. The daily turnover also dropped to Rs 3.76 billion from over Rs 4 billion on Wednesday.

The sensitive index that measures the performance of blue chips companies also fell 8.25 points. The indices of all the 13 trading groups declined while life-insurance lost the largest of 167.83 points.

In the individual companies, Shivam Cements had the largest transaction of its shares worth Rs 252.21 million. United IDI Mardi RB Hydropower Limited was the biggest loser while Balephi Hydropower Limited was the biggest gainer of the day.
