Nepse loses 17.35 points; daily turnover soars to Rs 2.639 billion on Sunday

KATHMANDU, May 28: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) on Sunday dipped 17.35 points to close at 1,941.77 points.

The secondary market opened at 1,959.12 points and went to as low as 1,949.2 points in the first few minutes of the trading. The market index went to the day’s high at 1,977.47 points and stayed stable for almost an hour, before it went to a straight downfall losing around 36 points to close for the day.  

In the intraday trading, 173 listed companies lost their market values, while 43 companies registered as gainers. The sensitive index that measures the performance of the blue chip companies also dropped 1.90 points.

Out of the 13 trading groups, only two including manufacturing and processing and mutual fund had their average market price increased. Of the 11 losers, non-life insurance, life insurance and hotels and tourism index dropped by three-digit points.

The daily turnover amount rose significantly to Rs 2.639 billion, perhaps the highest value in the past three months. On Wednesday, the transaction volume was recorded at Rs 1.87 billion.

Among individual companies, Shivam Cements had the biggest transactions of its shares worth Rs 217.99 million. Himalayan Urja Bikas Company Limited was registered the highest loser while Aatmanirbhar Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited was the topmost gainer.
