NEPSE drops 10.25 points; daily turnover slips to Rs 3.89 billion

KATHMANDU, Jan 24: Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) on Wednesday dropped 10.25 points to close at 2,088.04 points.

The market opened at 2,098.29 points and reached the day’s high at 2,120.38 points in the first 15 minutes of trading. In the next moment, the index declined successively to the day’s low at 2,084.13 points in the last six minutes. The market recovered around two points before it closed for the day.    

The sensitive index that measures the performance of ‘A’ class companies decreased 0.73 points. The daily turnover further declined to Rs 3.89 billion from Rs 4.29 billion on Tuesday.

Only banking and mutual funds were the gainer groups. Out of 11 losers, development banks shed the largest of 40.62 points, while the other five among the losers shed double-digit points.

Among individual companies, 153 were recorded as losers whereas 80 were the gainers.

Himalayan Reinsurance Limited with turnover of its shares worth Rs 251.56 million topped the segment. Terhathum Power Company Limited had a drop of 10 percent of its market and was recorded the highest loser. Chandragiri Hills Limited witnessed the biggest rise of 10 percent of its market price.
