He reminded that three former premiers -- Girija Prasad Koirala, Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal -- were elected through the same process in the past.
Nembang argued that the process to elect prime minister was being delayed due to the political parties not forging a consensus.
“How will the country get a prime minister when more than two-thirds of lawmakers either abstain from voting or stay neutral,” he questioned. He also clarified that constitutional provisions and procedures cannot be flouted to begin a new process to form the government.
Stating that a high-level working committee has been formed to expedite constitution-writing process, Nembang expressed hope over timely drafting of the new constitution.
Meanwhile, speaking at a function organized here by Nepal Press Union, Nepali Congress General Secretary Prakash Man Singh said his party will not withdraw from prime ministerial race until a package deal that incorporates conclusion of the peace process and constitution writing is reached.
“NC will withdraw from the prime ministerial race only after the political parties strike a package deal on issues like army integration and rehabilitation, arms management, disbanding of paramilitary structure of the Young Communist League, return of seized properties to its rightful owners, and constitution-writing action plan,” Singh said.
