Considering the difficulty he has in average-size houses whenever he visit anywhere, Adhikari has built a house to suit his height.[break]
The average dimentions of houses in his home village are 10 feet high per storey and six and half feet high doors. But Adhikari built his house in which he can walk about with his head held high.
Adhikari, who hails originally from Bayarban of Morang district, migrated to Itahari three years ago. Construction work on the house meant to rid him of the nuisance of low clearance houses is underway.
“I am building the house to suit my height so that I need not mind my head at least when I´m at home,” he said.
Adhikari has had to fork out more money for the construction than he had thought. He started with a cost estimate of Rs 1.5 million, but this fell short by Rs 700,000 due to its different dimentions.
Besides the lofty ceilings and doors, he has also had to arrange for a bed to properly accommodate him for a good night´s sleep. According to Adhikari, he sold ancestral property at Bayarban to built the house in Itahari.
The house located at Itahari-5, Shanti Tole has become a center of attraction.
Meanwhile, 35-year-old Adhikari has expressed disappointment that he could not break the world record for tallest man.
“I could not grow further after Dr Upendra Devkota treated me surgically for a growth hormone in 2057 BS,” said Adhikari. Doctors had reached the decision to operate to stop his unusual growth as he would face side-effects if the hormone was not treated.
“Had the hormone not been stopped, I could have broken the world record for tallest man,” an unhappy Adhikari added.
He was working at a private company but is now turning to animal husbandry.
