Nepal's dismal show in Bangkok continues<br/>CAN names probables

KATHMANDU, Aug 7: Roji Nagarkoti ended Nepal´s drought of win on Friday in the Asian Martial Arts Games being held in Bangkok. Roji defeated Sri Lankan player Chandrika Seneviratne 2-0 in the first round bout of under 55 kg category of karate. [break]



However, her joy didn´t last long. She lost to Miki Kobaya of Japan in her next round bout within 43 seconds. Miki thrashed Roji 8-0. However, she got the chance to fight for medal after her Japanese opponent reached the final. Roji couldn´t capitalize the opportunity as she lost in the first round against Korean opponent So Yo Jong 8-0.



In the men´s fight, Mukunda Maharjan lost to Saiyad Mohammad of Afghanistan by 6-0 in the under-67 kg category. Shashank Shrestha won against Kuwaiti opponent after referee ruled his opponents strike as foul but he couldn´t continue the bout after injury.



Jharana Gurung went down against Marin Merin in wushu (sansau) U-60 kg 2-1. Though defeated, Jharana bagged away a bronze medal as there were only three participants in the weight category.





CAN names probables



KATHMANDU, Aug 7: Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) selection committee headed by Arun Kumar Aryal declared the names of 23 probables for the ACC T20 Elite Cup to be played in November. The selected players will undergo a closed camp training.



Squad: Paras Khadka, Paresh Lohani, Dipendra Chaudhary, Gyanendra Malla, Pramod Basnet, Basanta Regmi, Shakti Gauchan, Rahul BK, Amrit Bhattarai, Pushpa Thapa, Ajay Rajbanshi, Mehboob Alam, Rajkumar Pradhan, Binod Kumar Das, Anil Mandal, Sanjam Regmi, Binod Bhandari, Prem Budal, Chandra Saud, Naresh Budayer, Mahesh Chhetri, Anupam Singh, Sarad Vesawkar.





Shotokan players leave for Tokyo



KATHMANDU, Aug 7: Sports Minister Ganesh Nepali and National Sports Council member-secretary Bishnu Prashad Lamsal met the Nepali players, who will be participating in the 9th World Shotokan Karate Championship at the Tribhuvan International Airport on Friday.



The players including Mahesh Shrestha and Ajit Kumar Shrestha left for Tokyo to participate in the championships to be held between August 11- 17.
