KATHMANDU, March 19: Altogether 59 Nepali migrants working as drivers for Subiya-based Kuwaiti Regional Gate Company were left in the lurch for about a week.

According to victims, the company owner forced them into a bus and left them in the middle of a desert after they demanded working visa and driving license as it is illegal to work under a visit visa in Kuwait.[break]

The workers had reached Kuwait on visit visas seven months ago through various manpower agencies in Nepal.

Talking to Republica over telephone from Min Allah area in Kuwait, Homnath Pokharel, 25, of Itahari-6, Morang, said, “The people from the company left us saying they didn´t care whether or not we worked without working visas.”

The victims complained that even the agent Ram Chandra Subedi, who took them to Kuwait, refused to help them even when the company owners took them to him before taking to the deserted place.

The victims said they contacted Nepali embassy in Kuwait seeking help to no avail.

“The embassy had assured us of help but they have not done anything yet,” said another victim Hira Thapa of Hetauda. The victims said the company refused them last month´s salary.
