The matter came to light when a manpower company rejected the MRP belonging to Dinesh Tamang of Limba VDC-9 in the southern part of Panchthar. He had submitted his MRP to the company as part of the procedures for foreign employment applications.
Tamang had receive his MRP two and a half months after he applied. However, the passport he was handed by the district administration office (DAO) came with the nationality error.
Following rejection of the passport by the manpower company, the MRP holder's father, Santabir Tamang, visited the DAO in Phidim, a two days' trek away, on Thursday to make a complaint. He put his case firmly before the DAO officials.
Meanwhile, the DAO officials said this is not the first time that MRPs with errors over nationality have been encountered.
Chief District Officer (CDO) Pradip Kandel said such errors over nationality in passports have ocurred in the district since long back.
“We have frequently informed the Ministry for Foreign Affairs about errors in the written forms,” said CDO Kandel. “However, the errors have not been tackled so far. Many of the MRPs we receive from the Department of Passport still come with various nationalities." Kandel, however, could not give a specific number of such cases.
The Department of Passport had issued the MRP (Number 08292704) to Dinesh Tamang on December 22, 2014.
Meanwhile, his father Santabir Tamang said he had to visit district headquarters at the peak of the farming season.
“My son's friend, who received his passport on the same date, has already left for foreign employment” Tamang senior said.
“It was such a waste of time. I have already spent over Rs 20,000 in the complaint process.
The MRP holder has to fill up the application form once again but does not have to make any further payment, according to Raj Kumar Neupane, an official at the DAO passport sector.
“Although we do not have to pay any additional fee, we incurred other expenses going to Kathmandu for the correction,” Santabir told Republica.
As per the DAO officials, information for making such corrections are sent to the Department of Passport and the department sends the corrected MRPs to the district office later on.
