Nepali girls held hostage in India

BARDIYA, July 27: Two girls from Bardiya district have been abducted and taken to India.



Nanda Lal BK, the father of Maya Kumari BK of Kalika-1, Kanchanpur, said his 14-year-old daughter and Kanti Kumari Damai (15) were kidnapped by one Ajaya Ramesh Banjara, who is a vagabond, and subsequently taken to Amritpuri in Baharaich district in India. [break]



"They have been held hostage by a person called Lal Bahadur Bharati ´doctor´ in India since last month," he said. Jit Bahadur Damai, the father of Kanti, said he knew about the whereabouts of his daughter after long.



Sub-Inspector Shyam KC and representatives of some organizations, including Sathi, reached the place where the girls were kept to rescue them, but only to return empty-handed. They said Police Inspector of Murtiha of India Mohammad Saiyad did not offer any help to rescue the girls.



The victim families have come to Gulariya to appeal the District Administration Office, police, human rights activists, civil society and media persons to rescue the girls.



Chief District Officer of Bardiya Madhav Gyawali said he held talks with the DM of Baharaich of India on telephone over the matter.
