According to a press statement issued by the Nepali Embassy in Tokyo, the two-day event scheduled for June 1-2 will be held at the Tokyo´s famous landmark, Tokyo Tower. “The observance of the 60th anniversary of the ascent of the Mount Everest has special significance in Japan as Japanese are among the most iconic figures in terms of the conquest of the world´s tallest mountain for the last six decades,” said the statement. Iconic Japanese climbers who have successfully climbed Mount Everest and promoted Nepal-Japan relationship will be honoured during the celebrations. Glimpse of Nepali culture featuring dance, society and music of Himalayas will also be shown on the occasion.
Among other things, the event will showcase Nepali products, travel mart, and taste of Nepal for Japanese friends and climbing tower, a unique program simulating the ascent of Mount Everest with renowned mountaineers to share ideas of mountaineering with young people. “Other highlights of the celebration will be the exhibition of pioneer Japanese mountaineer Naomi Uemura, Hiroki Fujita´s Himalayan photo exhibition and symposium,” the statement further said.
The event aims at further disseminating information on Nepal to the friendly people of Japan and promote bilateral relations. A separate website -- www.nepaken.com <http://www.nepaken.com> -- has also been developed to disseminate relevant information on the program.
“The program has received enthusiastic support from many Japanese friends and organizations that includes Japan Mountaineering Association, Japan Mountain Guides Association, Japan Workers Alpine Federation, Himalayan Association of Japan, Himalayan Adventure Trust of Japan, Japan-Nepal Society and Japanese Alpine Club,” said the statement.
