Dr Suresh Chandra Chalise, Nepal´s Ambassador to UK, and John Tucknott, Britain´s Ambassador to Nepal, jointly launched the program on May 11. Some 70 businesses, organizations and professionals attended the program, according to a statement issued on Thursday.
Addressing the function, Tucknott said that the UK was set to double its aid to Nepal in the next four years. He expressed hope that such a rise in aid, together with private investment and Nepal´s strategic position between the fast growing economies of India and China, will support the country to catch up with economic advancement.
Highlighted the prospects of doing business in Nepal, Dr Chalise said, “Prospects for economic growth in Nepal are excellent, due in part to a boom in tourism, remittances from the Nepali Diaspora and workers abroad, as well as the significant opportunities the country has to offer in the power and infrastructure sectors.”
He also informed the participants about new economic and industrial policy measures being introduced in Nepal that have created favorable business environment in the country.
BNCC´s Chairman, Peter Fowler said that the chamber was looking forward to collaborating with GBC in leading a trade delegation to Nepal later this year. “This (visit) would give UK businessmen an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a new, fast growth phase in Nepal offering opportunities across a wide range of sectors,” he stated.
