Nepal to leave for Universiad Games Wednesday

KATHMANDU, June 30: A 20-member Nepali team, including 19 players from seven sports disciplines, is set to leave for South Korea on Wednesday to take part in the 28th Summer Universiad Games scheduled for July 3-14 in Gwangju.

Nepali team comprises seven players from table tennis, three from taekwondo, and two players each from swimming, badminton, fencing and archery and one from lawn tennis, according to Purna Singh Bohra, general secretary of University Sports Association.

Deepak Saun, Jacky Maharjan, Avayraj Shrestha, Ashis Awale and Binesh Khaniya along with female players Nabita Shrestha and Anita Maharjan will take part in table tennis, while Nisha Rawal, Sita Tamang and Nima Gurung will vie in taekwondo.Likewise, Yasif Manandhar and Jitjwali Maharjan will take part in swimming, Deepak Bohara and Nangsal Devi Tamang will vie in badminton. Sanjib Lama and Rakhi Sharma will compete in fencing and Prakash Gurung and Krishna Maya Syangtang will take part in archery. Preity Baral is the only lawn tennis player to participate in the event.

The University Sports Association's president Pradeep Joshi is the team leader.
