Nepal to host first Rainbow Tourism Conference in April

KATHMANDU, Feb 11: Maya ko Pahichan Nepal (MKPN) has announced the holding of “Yatra 2 Happiness: First Rainbow Tourism International Conference” with the support of the Nepal Tourism Board.

MKPN is going to hold the conference on April 20-21. The organizers said that the registration application is open for those who want to participate in the conference.

Sunil Babu Pant, the executive director of MKPN and Nepal's first openly LGBT lawmaker, said that international tourism professionals, hoteliers, international donor agencies and celebrities will be invited to the conference, which is being held for the first time in Nepal.

As Nepal has made significant progress in the field of rights of sexual and gender minority communities, he said that the conference will play an important role in supporting the economic progress of the community, creating employment opportunities and raising Nepal's tourism industry to a higher level.

Pant, who also serves as the cultural ambassador for Rainbow Tourism, stated that Nepal's promotion of this tourism sector will safeguard the fundamental aspects of the nation's culture, including its lifestyle, costumes, festivals, and cuisine. 

He said that since there is more than 500 billion USD rainbow tourism business in the world, Nepal will certainly benefit from this.

Acting Executive Director of Tourism Board Nandini Lahe Thapa said that rainbow tourism is an important segment and Nepal should support this tourism as much as possible. She said that the Nepal Tourism Board will provide all possible support to make this conference a success.
