A photo exhibition, ‘Nepal: Then & Now’ started from Friday at Bikalpa Art Center (BAC), Pulchowk. Photos of eight photographers are on display, each presenting a unique perspective to the physical and social landscape changes.

Eight photographers were chosen through an open call for participation. The participants recreated a modern rendition of old photographs says Saroj Mahato -- director and founder of BAC. Mahato added, “The exhibition aims to showcase the changes in different places of Nepal by comparing the photographs taken some years back. The exhibition can help understand the pace of development, and the direction Nepal is heading towards.”

The featured photographs can help the viewers analyze the degree of changes in the Nepal’s topography. However, some images show very many similarities between the past and present. Ram Paudel’s presentation of Langtang shows no changes between 1980 and 2015. On the other hand, photographs by Katherine Cheng juxtaposes old (1969) and current (2018) Freak Street that shows very little resemblance between the two photographs.

The photo exhibition continues till Friday.
