KATHMANDU, Nov 4: Nepal Telecom will provide free telephone, SMS and Wi-Fi services for five days in the earthquake-affected areas of Jajarkot and Rukum East and West.


Narendra KC, a communication expert of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, said that a meeting held at the ministry today under the chairmanship of the Minister for Communication and Information Technology Rekha Sharma decided to make calls and messages free for five days in the earthquake-affected areas.

Nepal Telecom issued a statement today and mentioned that telephone, SMS and WiFi services will be provided free of charge in the quake-affected areas to continue information exchange. In addition, the telecom will also distribute new SIMs with free telephone, SMS and Wi-Fi in the earthquake-affected areas. It is said that it will be available from Surkhet, Rukum East and West and Jajarkot offices. Nepal Telecom also said that all telecom services are being resumed in the earthquake-affected areas.


Nepal Telecom has expressed its heartfelt condolences and wishes for peace to those who lost their lives in the earthquake. Due to the magnitude 6.4 earthquake that occurred at 11:47 on Friday night with its epicenter at Ramidanda in Jajarkot district, a large number of human casualties, physical damage and hundreds of injuries were reported in various areas of Jajarkot and Rukum West districts.
