Nepal sees sharp spike in COVID-19 cases, 435 new cases recorded on Wednesday alone

KATHMANDU, Jan 5: Nepal recorded 435 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday along with 239 recoveries and zero deaths, according to the latest information provided by the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP).

KATHMANDU, Jan 5: Nepal recorded 435 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday along with 239 recoveries and zero deaths, according to the latest information provided by the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP).


As many as 10,267 swab samples were tested for COVID-19 on the day. Of them, 370 PCR and 65 antigen tests turned out to be positive for the deadly virus.

There are currently 5,313 active cases of COVID-19 across the country. Among them, 4,852 are in home isolation, 363 in institutional isolation, 84 in ICUs, and 14 on ventilators. Similarly, 98 people are currently in quarantine facilities. So far, 11,601 people have died of viral infection across the country.


Meanwhile, the Kathmandu Valley recorded 222 cases of the virus on Wednesday. Of them, 156 were recorded in Kathmandu, 21 in Bhaktapur, and 45 in Lalitpur districts.
