Nepal’s COVID-19 tally soars to 487 with 30 new cases on Friday morning

KATHMANDU, May 22: Nepal has reported a total of 487 cases of COVID-19 as of Friday morning since the first case was confirmed on January 24.  

According to the latest statement issued by the Ministry of Health and Population, a 45 -year-old male from Binaya Tribeni Rural Municipality-6 in Nawalparasi [East],  a 74-year-old male and a 73-year-old female of Bharatpur-6, Chitwan tested positive for coronavirus during lab tests conducted at the Kathmandu-based National Public Health Laboratory and Bharatpur Hospital, Chitwan . 

Similarly, a 33-year-old female and a 15-year-old girl of Susta Rural Municipality-5, two males (aged 33 and 35) of Ramgram Municipality-3 and 18 in Nawalparasi also contracted the virus, according to the ministry. 

The other cases include eight males (aged 24, 25, 27, 29, 34, 36, 45 and 53) and an 8-year-old girl from Banganga Municipality and Mayadevi Rural Municipality of Kapilvastu.  Sarlahi district’s Godaita Municipality and Ramnagar Bahurawa Rural Municipality reported 15 new cases - 14 males (three aged 38 each, two aged 22 each, 25, 34 , and 24, 27 and 39) and an 18-year-old female. 

With the number of tests being expedited and an increasing number of Nepalis entering from the southern border, Nepal has witnessed a sharp increase in the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in recent days.
