KATHMANDU, Dec 6: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defense Purna Bahadur Khadka has expressed Nepal's commitment for playing an effective role in global peacekeeping in association with the United Nations.
Deputy Prime Minister Khadka pledged this in the course of the United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial hosted by the UN in Accra, Ghana.
On the occasion, DPM Khadka was paid a courtesy call on by Under Secretary General for UN Operational Support, Atul Khare on Tuesday. During the visit, Deputy Secretary General Khare lauded Nepal's crucial contributions to the international peacekeeping efforts, according to the DPM's private secretariat.
Saying that Nepal has a commitment to the UN Environment Policy, DPM Khadka shared the task of developing Birendra Peace Operations Training Center (BPOTC) as the first carbon neutral training center.

He expressed gratitude to the UN for its support to that end.
Also on the occasion, Deputy Secretary General of the UN Peace Operation Jean Pierre Lacroix also paid a call on DPM Khadka. On the same occasion, Lacroix expressed his confidence that Nepal would receive further opportunities at a higher level in the peacekeeping mission and UN headquarters in recognition of the contributions of Nepal.
Recalling the UN Secretary General's recent visit to Nepal, DPM Khadka said Nepal was serious to the imminent challenges of melting icebergs and has emphatically raised the issue at the COP-28 underway in Dubai.
Also on the occasion, Ghana's Minister for Defense Dominic Nitiwul paid a courtesy call on DPM Khadka. The Minister appreciated Nepal's high-level participation in the ministerial conference.
