KATHMANDU, Nov 23: Nepali advertizing industry is mulling over hosting AdAsia, a two-yearly event of advertizing agencies operating across Asia, and has intensified its lobbying to bring the event in the country for the year 2017.

Top officials of Advertising Association of Nepal (AAN) pushed for holding AdAsia 2017 in Nepal at a four-day congress of Asian Federation for Advertising Associations (AAFA) in New Delhi, India. [break]

AdAsia congress, first started in 1958, is considered as the most prestigious event of the industry in the continent. Though the event chiefly revolves around knowledge sharing among the players in the Asian countries, it also plays a crucial role in luring foreign investments, technology and expertise in the country, raising overall level of creativity of the industry.

Getting an opportunity to host the continent´s most prestigious event will signify that Nepali ad industry has come of age, thanks to international exposure and high creative standards, said AAN executive director, Bharat Lal Nyachhon.

President of AAN Raj Kumar Bhattarai said that being a member of AAFA since 2003, Nepal is capable of hosting the event. The number of professionals entering the industry is significant while quality and creativity of Nepali advertisements are comparable to the best globally, he said.

In order to host ´AdAsia´ congress, the host country should have the conference hall capable of accommodating over 1,000 participants, hotels of international standard for accommodation and must manage the speakers for different sessions after getting support and consent from member countries.

"As we meet these criteria and Nepali ad industry is growing every year with an annual growth rate of 15 percent, we have submitted our proposal of hosting the congress in the year 2017," said Bhattarai.

Santosh Shrestha, general secretary of AAN, offers a piece of advice in a tagline: "Acts: Not Ads". This means now Nepal should learn from other countries and conduct behavior change and social movement campaigns to create an environment for foreign investment in the Nepali ad business.

Hosting of ´AdAsia 2017´ will help Nepali ad industry benefit from international experiences and help bring in foreign investment in the Nepali ad industry.

"MNC´s are interested in countries which are acting as per the needs of the consumers and the market. So, why not we follow the same mantra as Nepali ads are now of international standard and AAN is capable of hosting international events," said Shrestha.

AAFA has already decided that AdAsia will be hosted by Vietnam in the year 2013 and Taiwan will host the congress in the year 2015.
