Nepal qualifies for AFC U-16 Championship finals

KATHMANDU, Sept 21: Nepali youth team qualified for next year's AFC U-16 Championship finals despite finishing runner-up in the Group B of the Qualifiers that concluded in Kyrgyzstan on Sunday.

In its last match, Nepal lost to Oman by 3-1 and came second in the Group 'B' even after having equally six points to group winner Oman.


As per the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Nepal secured its place for finals in India finishing as the best fourth runner-up teams in the AFC U-16 Championship Qualifiers. Oman secured its place for India as Group 'B' winner.

Nepal's chance was also dependent upon the result of the match between Jordan and Kyrgyzstan, but Kyrgyzstan won the match 4-1 and that favored Nepal.

Kyrgyzstan and Jordan finished third and fourth respectively having three points as both the team won one match each.

Similarly, Uzbekistan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Kuwait, Malaysia, DPR Korea, Korea Republic, Australia, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, United Arab Emirates along with India (host for next year's finals) also got their positions in the finals.
