SUNSARI, Dec 19: Departmental teams Nepal Police Club and Tribhuvan Army Club registered wins in the women’s football being held under the flagship of the Seventh National Games on Sunday.
In the matches held at Duhabi, Sunsari, Police and Army registered identical 3-0 wins over Far-Western Region and Mid-Western Region respectively. In the Group A match of women’s football event, Niru Thapa, Yaosdha Lama and Rupa Magar netted one goal each for Police in its comfortable 3-0 victory over Far-Western Region.
Army reaches semis despite Police win
Niru gave an early lead to Police by opening the score in the fifth minute while Yasoda extended the departmental team’s lead in the 31st minute. Rupa added another goal in the 49th minute which saw Police seal the 3-0 victory. Niru Thapa of the winning side was declared player-of-the-match.
Similarly in the Group B match, Puja Rana, Bhujung Rai and Kranti Ale notched one goal each to help Army beat Mid-Western Region 3-0. Army took lead with Puja’s goal as early as in the third minute while Bhujung doubled the lead for the departmental side in the 24th minute. Second-half substitute Kranti added the third goal for Army in the 68th minute to help her team to seal 3-0 win.
Manisha Raut of Army was declared the player-of-the-match. On the third day of the event, Western Region will face Police in Group A clash while Eastern Region and Army will vie in the Group B fixture. Women’s football tournament under the National Games kicked off on Saturday at the same venue.
Armed Police Force had overcame Western Region 3-0 in the inaugural match. The formal inauguration of the National Games to be held in Eastern Region of the country is scheduled to be held on Thursday.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari will declare the opening of the game at the Shahid Stadium in Biratnagar.
