Steady Rise in the Cases of COVID-19

Nepal logs 3,553 new cases, 271 recoveries and one death on Thursday

KATHMANDU, Jan 13: Nepal recorded 3,553 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday along with 271 recoveries and one death, according to the latest information provided by the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP).

As many as 15,081 swab samples were tested for COVID-19 on the day. Of them, 2,922 PCR and 631 antigen tests turned out to be positive for the deadly virus.

Nepal has witnessed a steady rise in the cases of COVID-19 in the past few days. While Nepal recorded 3,075 new cases on Wednesday, the country witnessed 2,444 new cases on Tuesday. Nepal recorded 326 cases on January 4 but the number climbed to 435 the following day. The number of new cases was already 540 on January 6 and 968 on January 7 before jumping to 1167 on January 9.

There are currently 14,475 active cases of COVID-19 across the country. Among them, 13,503 are in home isolation, 837 in institutional isolation, 110 in ICUs, and 25 on ventilators. Similarly, 122 people are currently in quarantine facilities. So far, 11,610 people have died of the viral infection across the country.

Meanwhile, the Kathmandu Valley alone recorded 1,916 cases of the virus on Thursday. Of them, 1,449 were recorded in Kathmandu, 150 in Bhaktapur, and 317 in Lalitpur districts.
