According to Raghuji Pant, the prime minister´s political advisor, Nepal and Koirala agreed to hold talks with the UCPN-Maoists. CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal and other leaders were also present during the meeting.
Maoists have been obstructing the parliament since the fall of their government on May 4 over the army chief row, protesting the move of the President in the controversy. The President had blocked the sacking of Army Chief Rookmanagud Katawal by the Maoist-led government on May 3 and the Maoists have been demanding that the President´s move must be corrected.
Nepali Congress General Secretary Bimalendra Nidhi said that Nepal and Koirala agreed that there should be a “respectable solution” to the demands put forth by the Maoists and the decision of the present government nullifying the sacking of the army chief.
“The leaders decided to hold talks with the Maoist leaders in the afternoon on Tuesday,” Nidhi said.
In the meantime, an all-party meeting is being convened later Tuesday in a bid to seek solution to the deadlock in the parliament.
The continuous obstruction of the parliament has pushed the prospect of the government´s possibility of presenting its budget in the parliament. The ongoing winter session of the parliament is yet to be prorogued and the budget sessions is yet to decided due to the deadlock.
