This year the festival is going to showcase 63 films from 31 countries during the fourth edition of Nepal International Film Festival (NIFF). According to a press statement released by the foundation, the festival is scheduled to be held virtually due to the COVID-19 situation, from May 6 to May 10.
Due to the pandemic, this year the film festival is going to be held on virtual platforms and can be viewed on https://www.facebook.com/events/804233290514095, https://niff.org.np/events/ and https://www.facebook.com/niffnp/live.
In the festival, there are six categories for awards and screening. They are Feature Film Competition (International), Live Action Short Films (International), Animated Short Films (International), Documentary Competition, Feature Film Competition (National) and Short Film Competition (National) where the best films under each category will be awarded.
The winning film under the category Best Feature Film (International) will receive the Gautama Buddha Award along with a cash prize of $1500. In addition to this, NIFF 2021 will also host the ‘Pandemic Film Exhibit’, which will showcase short films and documentaries focused on the topic of pandemics, and the best film in this category will also be awarded $ 500 and a trophy.
Bollywood film director, writer and producer Anurag Kashyap is known for his work in Indian cinema, especially in the areas of independent filmmaking. In the interaction event, he will be talking about the topic of indie filmmaking, the Indian film industry, the global film fraternity and funding on the first day of the festival.
