Speaking at an interaction, General Secretary of Indian National Congress DP Tripathi and General Secretary of Samajwadi Janata party HN Sharma said Nepal is India´s crown and peace can prevail in India only if peace prevails in Nepal. [break]
Sharma said democracy cannot be strengthened without the people´s support and democracy can be protected only if the parties and people go together or else the country sees revolt.
Sharma suggested Nepali political parties to work together on national issues and select a leader acceptable to all to head the consensus government. Sharma was political advisor of Chandra Shekhar when he was prime minister in India back in the nineties.
At the interaction, Tripathi said parties must reach consensus to institutionalize democracy, take peace process to a logical end, clear mistrust and forge consensus on constitution building.
He said national consensus government can be formed and lasting peace can be realized in Nepal if the parties honestly implement all past agreements including the 12-point understanding and the three-point deal.
On a query, Tripathi said he met Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and suggested him to become Pushpa Kamal and not the war-era Prachanda. He said all treaties with India including the 1950 treaty can be reviewed and amended if Nepal government feels the need for it.
He said he hopes for the formation of a national consensus government in Nepal soon.
