Nepal had faced a 110-run defeat at the hands of Pakistan in its first warm-up match on Saturday.In its second match, Nepal, chasing 231 runs target, was bowled for 165 runs in 42.1 overs despite a solid start to the run chase and seven batsmen reaching double digit score.
Opener Sandeep Sunar (12 off 29) and Sunil Dhamala (26 off 18) shared an opening stand of 40-run. Sandeep hit a four, while Sunil, who had batted aggressively, hit five boundaries.
Sandeep added 18-runs for the second wicket with Yogendra Karki (15-run off 37-ball), who hit two fours.
Skipper Raju Rijal, the second highest run scorer with 31 runs in 55 balls, shared 28-run with Aarif Sheikh (10) and added 22-run with Dipendra Singh Airee, who scored highest 33 runs remaining not out facing 44 balls. Raju cracked two fours and Dipendra hit four boundaries.
Nepal failed to reply strong after middle order batsmen Raju and Aarif were run out, however, tail-ender Himanshu Dutta hit 21-run-a-ball with two sixes.
Himanshu shared a highest stand of 47 runs with Dipendra for the ninth wicket that led the team to a respectable total at the final moment.
Charith Asalanka bagged two wickets, while Lahiru Kumara, Jehan Daniel, Thilan Nimesh and Wanidu Hasaranga claimed a wicket each for Sri Lanka.
Earlier, being invited to bat first, Sri Lanka posted 230/9 in allotted 50 overs with Shammu Ashari remaining not out on 81-run off 74-ball and skipper Charith Asalanka contributing 71 runs facing 68 balls. Shammu hit four sixes and same number of fours, while Charith cracked 10 boundaries. Shammu and Charith shared a 83-run stand for the fourth wicket to keep their side in comfortable zone.
Sunil Dhamala, Sandeep Lamichhane and Sushil Kandel picked up two wickets each and Dipendra Singh Airee claimed a wicket for Nepal.
Nepal to begin its group stage from Thursday
Nepal, which is in Group D, will face New Zealand in its opener on Thursday. The group comprises of Nepal, New Zealand, India and Ireland. Similarly, Nepal will face Ireland in its second match on January 30 and play India on February 1.
