KATHMANDU, June 5: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Ananda Prasad Pokharel, today said the carbon emission from other countries was affecting Nepal.
At a programme held to launch 'Environmental Law Journal' to coincide with the World Environment Day by Environmental Development and Conservation Legal Forum, Minister Pokharel said Nepal was forced to bear the brunt of carbon emission of western countries.
The country is taking the toll of the global climate change, the Minister said, stressing the need for continuing the campaigns for environmental conservation.
Blaming the many forms of pollution including the visual pollution on human causes, Minister Pokharel said the government and private sector must work to control it.
On the occasion, Justice Ananda Mohan Bhattarai spoke of the importance of the environment on our health, and urged for compliance with the court orders for protecting environment.
National Planning Commission member, Dr Sumitra Amatya, called on all the political parties of Nepal to join hands for protecting the health of a common citizen by focusing on environmental conservation.
Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Chief Executive Officer, Rudra Singh Tamang, pledged to abide by Supreme Court orders to remove the hoarding boards that cause visual pollution in the city.
At the programme, advocate Padam Bahadur Shrestha presented a working document on the problems of visual pollution and Supreme Court order. Shrestha underlined the negative impact on city's beauty due to haphazard use of pamphlets, banners, filmy posters and hoarding boards.
Forum's Chairman, Shyam Kumar Basnet, said the campaigns must run for a whole year not just for one day to protect the environment. The Forum has been working continuously for environmental conservation, he said.
