Nepal embassy in UK refutes report

KATHMANDU, Dec 9: The Nepali Embassy in United Kingdom (UK) has refuted report published in Republica Wednesday that Nepal Government had instructed its ambassador Dr Suresh Chalise not to attend the ceremony for awarding Nobel Peace Prize to Liu Xiaobo, a dissident Chinese national, in Oslo.



Issuing a press statement on Thursday, envoy Dr Chalise said the government had issued no such directive.[break]



 “It is not appropriate to take part in any formal programs of concerned country without submitting credentials,” said the statement. “Envoy Dr Chalise is currently in the process of submitting his credentials in Norway.”



The embassy regretted the ´baseless´ news and said it could send a negative message and also harm bilateral relations between Nepal and the concerned country.



The news report on Republica quoting a source had said tha the Nepal government took the decision following diplomatic pressure from China not to send representative to attend the December 10 ceremony in Oslo.
