Nepal defeats Saudi Arabia by 137 runs

KATHMANDU, April 22: Four time defending champions Nepal made a winning start in the ACC U-19 Elite Cup 2009 defeating Saudi Arabia by 137 runs at the KEC Ground, Kuwait on Wednesday. [break]



Nepal elected to bat first and despite losing top order batsmen early scored 237 in 49 overs. Amrit Bhattarai hogged the limelight with brisk 82 off 93 balls while Rom Shrestha (32) and Chandra Sawad (28) supported him well.

Waqas Khalid of Kuwait had put Nepal in early trouble taking five wickets for 41 runs while Saim Rushdi (3/36) and Abdullah Khan (2/58) were other wicket-takers.



Nepal was at a time reeling at 76/7 before the tail-enders batted well to rescue.



In reply, Saudi Arabia were bundled out for 96 runs in 38.3 overs. Anil Mandal was pick of the bowler taking two wickets for nine runs. Sagar Khadka and Lal Bahadur Adhikari also grabbed two wickets each while Gyanendra and Prithu Baskota took a wicket apiece.


Nepal will now meet Malaysia on Thursday as the scheduled has been changed, according to Cricket Association of Nepal.
