Nepal committed to ‘One China’ policy, VP Pun tells Chinese envoy

KATHMANDU, Nov 21: New Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Yu Hong called on Vice-president Nanda Bahadur Pun at the latter’s office in Kantipath on Monday afternoon. 

During the meeting, Vice-president Pun said that China is a close neighbor of Nepal, adding that the relation between the countries is centuries old.

Vice-president Pun told the Chinese envoy that Nepal was always committed to ‘one China’ policy. 

Saying that the Government of Nepal has adopted a policy of not allowing any forms of anti-China activities here, Vice-president Pun stressed that the chiefs of all the parties are always committed to the policy. He added that Nepal was ready for any sort of steps to stop anti-China activities in its land.

Envoy Yu told the Vice-president that China and its citizens will always attach a high priority to Nepal. She added that Nepal and China should move ahead as strategic partners, adding that her country was expanding co-work with South Asian countries.   

During the courtesy call, the Chinese envoy praised Nepal for implementing the ‘one China’ policy.

Saying that Chinese President Xi Jinping had told Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal that he will visit Nepal at an appropriate time, envoy assured the vice-president that she was working for the visit to take place at the earliest.
