Nepal beats Maldives by 84 runs

KATHMANDU, Dec 6: Host Nepal national cricket team has thrashed the Maldives by 84 runs at the ongoing 13th South Asian Games (SAG).


Chasing the target of 164 runs, Maldivian team managed to score only 79 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 6 wickets. 


For the Maldives, Mohamed Azzam scored the highest 17 not out while Mohamed Rishwan and Ibrahim Hassan contributed 13 and 12 runs respectively. Ali Ivan scored 11 while other batsmen couldn't reach the double-digit mark.

Nepal's Lalit Rajbanshi and Sushan Bhari took two wickets each. Likewise, Pawan Sarraf claimed a wicket. 


Nepal has posted a target of 164 runs against the Maldives at the 13th South Asian Games. 


Earlier, in the match at Tribhuwan University cricket ground, Kirtipur on Friday afternoon, Nepal opted to bat first after winning the toss. Losing 7 wickets in 20 overs, Nepal managed to score 163 runs inspired by all-rounder Karan KC's unbeaten 40 runs off 16 deliveries. He smashed 4 maximums and 2 boundaries. Similarly, Dipenendra Singh scored 39 runs. Captain Gyanendra Malla and Binod Bhandari contributed 19 runs each. Likewise, opener batsman Paras Khadka and Aarif Sheikh garnered 11 and 17 runs respectively. 


Leem Shafeeg and Ameel Mauroof took 3 and 2 Nepali wickets respectively for the Maldives. 


Nepal is in the third position in the points table with 4 points. Sri Lanka is at the top with 6 points while Bangladesh is in the second rank.


Nepal will take on Bangladesh on Saturday which is the crucial match for the hosts to determine for the finals.
