Nepal bags bronze medal in Int’l Astronomy Olympiad

KATHMANDU, Nov 17: Nepal has bagged a bronze medal in the 27th International Astronomy Olympiad held from November 6 to 14 in Beijing, the capital of China.


Drishanta Kumar Maharjan secured the bronze medal for Nepal in the Olympiad, said Suresh Kumar Bhattarai, president of Nepal Astronomical Society.

The Society has been participating in the Olympiad since 2018. Nepal had also won a bronze medal in this Olympiad in 2019. Students winning in the National Astronomy Olympiad have been representing Nepal at various international Olympiads every year. The National Astronomy Olympiad began in 2014.


Nepal has been participating in the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad since 2014. So far students have clinched 12 honorary medals and two bronze medals for Nepal under the Olympiad.


Bhattarai said that so far Nepali students have three honorary medals in the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad-Junior which was founded in 2022.
