Although NA soldiers are known for their exceptional performance during similar kinds of training abroad, many in Nepal say this is the first time in 20 years that a Nepali trainee was able to receive this prestigious award.

Along with the Overseas Sword, Second Lieutenant Thapa was also able to bag the "Platoon Commander - Instructor Pass" award. It is said that this is the first time any Nepal Army officer cadet has bagged the "Platoon Commander - Instructor Pass" award during overseas training in the UK.
