KATHMANDU, May 23: Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Arzu Rana has said the country and society could not be developed with the existing negative thinking pervasive in society.

Addressing a reception organized by the Nepali People's Liaison Committee in Tokyo, Japan, on Thursday, she said negative thinking like 'nothing will happen’ and ‘it is not possible' is being brewed and propagated, which will lead to neither societal nor national development.

Minister Dr Rana emphasized that since such thinking exists among political parties within the country, Nepali society, and Nepalis living abroad, there is a need to abandon this tendency and create a positive environment for nation-building.

"I don't see a positive presentation or expression of anything. Good and positive works have also been carried out in society and the country, but they are rarely recognized as good. It seems like everyone wants to go viral in the media. I only see the mindset that negative publicity gets more attention. This is not how a country functions," she said.

Minister Dr Rana urged the non-resident Nepalis to unite and engage with a positive mindset.

"The Nepali diaspora around the world has great power. If you unite, you will gain significant strength to fight for your rights. Therefore, my request is, do not get entangled in trivial matters, strive to create a single NRNA," Foreign Minister Dr Rana said.

She clarified that the government facilitated the recent NRNA convention by complying with the Supreme Court's directive and that a new executive committee was formed based on consensus.

Minister Dr Rana also urged Nepalis around the world to invest the skills, knowledge, and capital they have acquired abroad for the development of Nepal.

Stating that after becoming the foreign minister, she had a separate department established in the ministry to provide consular and other necessary services related to foreign affairs to the Nepali diaspora around the world, she said the cooperation of all Nepalis is also required for this.

"We have established a separate branch for the economic diplomacy of the Nepali diaspora and are moving forward with our work. For this, the significant role of all Nepalis around the world is essential, and the Government of Nepal also expects similar support," the minister added.
