KATHMANDU, Aug 31: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) is preparing to operate the Sanjen Hydropower Plant in ‘isolated mode’ to restore service in Rasuwa, the most affected district by the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli flood that has been facing power disruption since Wednesday’s natural catastrophe.
According to the NEA, it has started homework to disconnect the local power system from the national transmission system, while electricity generated from the Sanjen Hydropower Plant will be distributed to the affected areas of Rasuwa. The NEA has stated that necessary technical preparations and coordination are underway for this task.

Since the password of the equipment needs to be reset to connect the electricity generated from the Sanjen Hydropower Plant to the local system, the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation is coordinating with the relevant Chinese company through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the necessary technical support.
According to the secretariat of Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, the target is to restore power supply in Dhunche and other areas by this evening if the necessary technical assistance is received.
In other areas affected by the flood and not immediately connected to the national grid, preparations are being made to provide electricity service by mobilizing alternative sources, including solar energy, through the Alternative Energy Promotion Center.
The NEA has stated that a strategy has been adopted to mobilize alternative energy sources to meet the immediate needs, along with the work of restoring regular power supply by repairing the power infrastructure damaged by the flood.
