BHAKTAPUR, Aug 20: The building of Nepal Electricity Authority at Kharipati in Bhaktapur has been converted into an isolation center amid the recent surge in coronavirus cases in the capital.
The same building was used for quarantine in March to accommodate students who were brought back home from Wuhan of China in February this year in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak. The 200-bed isolation center is being used to keep COVID-19 patients.

Sumitra Gautam, the medical superintendent at the Bhaktapur Hospital, said that Nepal Army’s Birdal Battalion has set up the isolation center as per the instruction of the government. For now, 100 beds are being used to keep COVID-19 suspected persons. The district administration in Bhaktapur also facilitated the conversion of the NEA building into an isolation center.
Gautam said that eight beds have been reserved for medical staff and others will be used for COVID-19 suspected patients. A seven-member medical team from Human Organ Transplant Centre and Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital is being deputed to take care of patients suspected of COVID-19.
A squad of Nepal Army is guarding the isolation center. One COVID-19 patient is currently undergoing treatment at the isolation center. Earlier, the Ministry of Health and Population said that more isolation centers will be set up in Kathmandu keeping in mind the rising cases of coronavirus.
