KATHMANDU, July 24: Ncell has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DoHM) for early warning/alerts system, which can help people to safety and prevent loss of property in areas where risk of flood and landslides is high.

Issuing a statement, Ncell said that its customers, residing in flood and landslides high risk areas, will now receive early warning alerts of possible flood and landslides in their areas through SMS.

People living in the downstream of West Rapti, Narayani, Kankai, Koshi, Bagmati, Karnali, Babai and Kamala Rivers will benefit from the new facility, according to the statement.

Simon Perkins, managing director of Ncell and Rishi Ram Sharma, director general of the DoHM signed the MoU for collaboration for the early warning system.

Under the MoU, depending upon the situation, DHM will provide SMS content to Ncell and the company will send SMS to the people living in those areas.

“Flow of SMS to customers before occurrence of flood and landslide will contribute in saving human lives and reduce loss of property,” Perkins said, adding: “We are much delighted to be a part of this noble project."
