KATHMANDU, May 16: Nepali Congress (NC) has emerged victorious in Dakshinkali Municipality of Kathmandu.
According to the final results of the counting of votes cast during the May 13 local level elections, Mohan Basnet secured 7,201 votes to be elected the mayor. His nearest competitor Shri Ram Acharya of the CPN-UML obtained 5,192 votes, said municipality election officer Amrita Kumari Sharma. With this, the party has recorded its first victory in Kathmandu district. Basnet has been elected to the post for a second-term.

Likewise, Basanti Dangol Tamang from the NC has won the election held for the post of deputy mayor. She will also be taking charge of deputy-mayor in the town for a second-term as she had won the previous 2017 local polls as well. She secured 7,632 ballots against her nearest rival Indira Neupane of CPN-UML who finished the race with 4,830 votes.
The NC has registered its victory in six wards out of nine in the municipality. According to Sharma, the voter turnout in the May 13 elections in Dakshinkali Municipality was 80.87 percent.
