KATHMANDU, May 11: The UCPN (Maoists) Standing Committee member Barsha Man Pun on Tuesday alleged that ruling Nepali Congress and CPN-UML had used their cadres to incite violence in their protests in the guise of professionals.

Addressing the House meeting on Tuesday, Pun argued the presence of the UML student wing head Ram Kumari Jhankri in the peace rally and Youth Force coordinator Mahesh Basnet in the clash that took place in Bhaktapur during the Maoist strike is testimony to the fact. “This is political cowardliness,” he said.[break]

Pun criticized the government for attacking people´s representatives in various parts of the country during Maoist strike. While thanking the security personnel who exercised restraint, he demanded action against others involved in suppressing peaceful protests.

He said that altogether 500 Maoist cadres were injured and eight were killed across the country. He asked the government to declare those killed in the protests as martyrs.

Pun also demanded action against those involved the vandalism of their tents and other goods in Birgunj in the name of retaliation. “They are criminals. They must be brought to justice,” he said.

NC Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel and UML leader Pradip Gyawali said that they did not have any policy to retaliate against the Maoist. They argued that the protest activities were not peaceful as the Maoists leadership claimed.

The House meeting on Tuesday was also marked with allegations and counter allegations between the ruling and opposition parties for delay in constitution drafting.
