KATHMANDU, July 6: The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has accused the government of running the state affairs in an arbitrary way.
The party said the government’s recent moves such as revocation of several appointments and other decisions of the erstwhile government headed by NC’s Sher Bahadur Deuba were aimed at weakening the democratic system.

“The decisions taken by the previous government were taken by a government elected by parliament. Also, those decisions taken during the time when the election code of conduct was in effect were taken only after taking permission from the Election Commission,” said NC Spokesman Bishwa Prakash Sharma at a press meet on Thursday. “This is not a matter of any individual or an appointment. This is an issue of an established legal process. In this case, the government has breached the law, which is serious.”
Accusing the government of openly inviting the opposition for a conflict by taking such decisions, Sharma said that it would be the party’s duty to retaliate against such moves of the government.
Sharma termed the latest government move of formulating the medical education bill as a conspiracy against public interest and reforms in the medical education sector. He warned of creating a wave of pressure from parliament, streets and media against the government allegedly for trying to promote “government-protected institutional anomalies” in the medical sector.
Sharma also criticized various other government decisions including the decision to ban protests in various places in the Kathmandu Valley and trying to curtail press freedom.
