ITAHARI, Oct 10: Sunsari leader of the Nepali Congress (NC), Rajiv Koirala who has staked his claim to the post of Province 1 chief minister has said that the senior leader of the party Ram Chandra Paudel and leaders from the Koirala family have not raised a single question over the decision of the party’s President Sher Bahadur Deuba. Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba said that the post has been given to the CPN (Unified Socialist) and that he will not take any pressure on the topic as Paudel and Koirala have not said anything.

At a program organized on the occasion of the Dashain festival by the Sunsari branch of Nepal Press Union at Itahari on Saturday, most of the speakers expressed their dissatisfaction over the decision of the party’s President Sher Bahadur Deuba to give the post of chief minister to the Madhav Kumar Nepal-led CPN (Unified Socialist). Responding to the speakers at the program, Chief Guest Koirala said, “You all have just entered politics. Why are you all against the decision? I will fight the situation by myself.”

“Although the Nepali people gave a majority to the communists, the country’s situation demands that the Nepali Congress lead the government. Today, the Nepali Congress has to teach the constitutional provisions to the same people who drafted the constitution. Chief Minister Bhim Achary will have to pave the way in Province 1. Let’s not work against the constitution,” Koirala said.

He said that each party should practice politics without quarreling with each other and in a civilized manner.  “The responsibility of forming a provincial government rests on the shoulders of the ruling alliance. The opposition has the majority numbers of lawmakers in Province 1,” Koirala said. While 50 lawmakers are in the opposition alliance, CPM-UML alone has 39 of them.
